In here I put the proof of that stuff and also I
upload the documentation in PDF format.
What is SAP IDES and
System Requirement for installations?
System Requirement to
install IDES
For installing SAP IDES on a Laptop, you need:
Pentium
3/Pentium 4 with any CPU
100 GB HDD
min. 1 GB RAM
What is
SAP IDES (Internet Demonstration and Evaluation System)?
SAP IDES
is a normal R/3 but with lots of DEMO data.
The system that
contains several sample companies typifying relevant business processes.
It is simple to use and has a variety of master and transaction data,
and is used for demos, online/classroom training, and presentations.
Potential customers use IDES to trial and test software via Internet.
SAP
IDES – the "Internet Demonstration and Evaluation System" in the R/3
System, represents a model company. It consists of an international
group with subsidiaries in several countries. IDES contains application
data for various business scenarios that can be run in the SAP System.
The business processes in the IDES system are designed to reflect
real-life business requirements, and have access to many realistic
characteristics. IDES uses easy-to-follow business scenarios to show you
the comprehensive functions of the R/3 System. The focal point of IDES,
however, is not the functionality itself, but the business processes
and their integration.
Tips How to Install *credit to LUURTB*
Ok,
I am not goint to post any screenshot because it is not really
necessary. I will explain the different steps needed to install SAP IDES
4.71 and if somebody needs more detailed help just need to tell me, I
will check this post regularly (to see if you can get the SAP IDES
documentation too ;-)
Step 1. Download the files that admin
uploaded in rapidshare. My recommendation is to download each DVD one by
one and burn them as soon as we get the files to make sure we have
enough space on our hard disks.
Step 2. You should have 4 DVDs.
The first DVD contains the installation program while the other three
contain the test data that comes with the SAP IDES (they have the
EXPORT1, EXPORT2 and EXPORT3 folders).
Step 3. Make sure you have
a Windows 2000 standalone server with the English version installed and
with two disk partitions. The first one with 20Gb with the Operative
System installed and the second one with 60Gb at least (this is really
the minimum space needed so if you have more space better!). You will
need also 1Gb of physical memory and at least 2Gb of virtual memory. If
you have more perfect!
Step 4. Let's start the installation.
First of all disconnect the network adapter so your server is not
connected to any network. Second login as a Local Administrator with
full rights on your server. Third copy all the DVDs on the 20Gb
partition so you have all the needed files at hand during the
installation. Four install the Java 1.4.2 SDK in your server, you can
find this program in the SUN website (www.java.com)
Step 5.
Execute the 'setup.bat' you will find on the SAPINSTNT folder. This will
copy the SAPINST program on your server. It will restart the program
automatically and will ask you what you want to do. Install a brand new
SAP server or upgrade an existing one. Say you want to install a new
standard SAP server. Now the program will ask you if you want to install
a Central Instance, Database Instance or Dialog Instance. Say you want
to install a Central Instance. The name of the system will be 'C11' and
accept the default settings that the program proposes. Say that this
will be a 'local installation' on a standalone server (no domain
controllers here). Select the partition that has 60Gb to install the SAP
server. Tell the program the admin password you want to use and where
do you have the installation files (they should be on the 20Gb
partition). The SAPINST program should be installing the 'Central
Instance' on your server.
Step 6. After an hour or so the SAPINST
program says it has finished installing the Central Instance. Reboot
the server. Execute the SAPINST program again. You should tell the
program now to install the 'Database Instance' now. If the SAPINST
program doesn't show the screen where you can select what to install you
have to uninstall the SAPINST program and reinstall.
You must
think that normally the 'Central Instance' is installed in one server
and the 'Database Instance' in another but we are installing everything
on the same machine now. Tell the SAPINST program to install a 'Database
Instance' called 'C11' and accept the default settings that proposes.
Say this is a 'local installation'. It will ask you the admin password
you want to use, what is the maximum space you want to assign to the
database and log files. Say minimum 58Gb for the database and 2Gb for
the log file. Tell the program where to find the installation files and
wait until the database instance is installed.
Step 7. It will
take 8 or 9 hours to get everything installed. Don't ask me why but the
program installs more than 50Gb of test data in different languages...
If everything goes fine the program will try to initiate the database
and start the SAP server. In my case it didn't work but if the database
has been created and loaded don't worry. You can finish the last part of
the installation yourself. Close the SAPINST program. Open the SAP
Console and start the SAP server. If it doesn't start automatically,
reboot the server and try it again. It should go green and display the
different processes the server is running.
Step 8. Activate your
network adapter. Install the SAP GUI client that you will find on the
DVD 1. Configure the client to login on to your SAP server:
machine=localhost, system number=00, system id=C11. Login as
username=SAP*, password=06071992 on client=000 or as username=IDADMIN,
password=IDES on client=800 and enjoy your SAP server!
Ok you
have the SAP IDES 4.71 server installed at home with 50Gb of test
business scenarios but without any documentation that explains what are
they used for. Now you should wait for admin to upload the original SAP
IDES documentation before moving on. Meanwhile you can read some ABAP
courses or some FI,CO,MM,SD or PP courses to get to know the system
better.
